Alpine

This quality German (part of Robert Bosch Group) manufacturer's line up for the 21st century demands closer inspection. Attractive fronts are now the order of the day and gone are the sometimes rather bland "Teutonic" offerings of last century. Solid build quality is still a key feature, however even though much of the product is now assembled in the Far East.

Blaupunkt's unique 'key card' is an alternative security measure to fascia removal. Travel Pilot navigation is available in a number of guises, with an entry-level standard DIN size tuner/display unit available from £1,099 plus installation.

 

Kenwood

Famous for their "MASK" feature, the current incarnation of Kenwood's unique motorised theft-prevention system offers a removable panel mask, thus offering alternative choices of security to suit the user's immediate circumstances. Inventors of the MiniDisc, Sony's range of  players offers value for money and ease of system building. In common with most of the radio/cassettes and CD tuners, removable fascias are a standard feature, and most products incorporate a 3 step bass boost control which allows the user to tweak the output easily whilst on the move, avoiding having to enter the audio menu
